Just the video quality is fine if you use the Technicolor Cinema Style and tweak the sharpness settings in the camera set them higher, because the video of the RP is on the soft side. But beware of using vintage lenses: "Modern" lens designs are so much better in sheer technical IQ and they have character too, at least the medium class Canon EF glass like 2. I already love it. Just curious. It's not my system. I've come back to my trusty 6D but wanted to try something else, the EOS R costs too much for the shortcomings that I've seen and tried, the RP was not in my radar until 4 day ago.

Its price, the flippy screen, the friendly for me user interface, added the extra grip, the possibility to use all my EF lenses with a faster AF and the possibility to access the new RF lenses I have already ordered the RF 50 f1. It's a nice non pretentious camera at a very good price. I can live with the shortcomings of its sensor. At the moment only experienced with M50 but RP will be soon in my hands unbelievable offer with adapter and RF 35mm.

The RF 50 f1. This is a camera that I really wanted to love. I tested it in the camera store recently. The RP felt very very toyish But I didn't mind as I loved its lightness and portability.

It was the quirky controls and interface that really put me off. It handled very much like a prototype camera in its beta phase and felt like this camera was rushed in its release. It wasn't snappy but rather clunky and quirky. I feel exactly the opposite. RP feels more solid that A7RII and the interface, for my taste, is not comparable, in a few seconds I have set everything I need even because I am well accostumed to Canon interface :.

I have Nikon gear, and I really like Nikon, but Sony it's quite good, and I can learn more easily and faster the Sony controls than the time I took for me learn the Nikon controls. Built in stabilization is a con. It works well with very short focal lengths. Good quality lens based stabilization is amazing. Most in-body stabilization systems are smart enough to let the lens IS do the things it's good at, so you don't have to choose one or the other.

The size and weight are very impressive, but dynamic range seems to be a step back. Would not mind trading megapixels for improved DR. You can potentially make a trade-off between pixel count and per-pixel DR with the cost being resolution , but this doesn't improve per-image DR ie: the result if you compare images at the same size.

The problem here isn't pixel count, it's readout design. Canon, please throw a bone or two to your loyal customers and fix these limitations. I turned off eye detect as it was too sensitive, kept turning screen of when I moved hand to tap to focus. Yake wats0n no my fault if the Sony site posted it before DPR or other places of my knowledge. I am not pointing out what Sony is doing on the chart, but what RP is doing. It is not my fault if Sony is doing so well in the chart that you both can only pay attention to this rather than what I am pointing out: RP sales have been dropping dramatically since its release despite many here have been raving about Canon breaking the current market with its release while I was commenting that a similarly specified camera at a similar price already existed A7II and I would expect RP sales to more or less align with the existing models a few months after its introduction.

RP needs to be a lot cheaper to truly disrupt the market. Sony deserve to do well they invested early and have done a good job, as other has said, I also know no one who uses Sony. I think with all the hoo hah for this camera and the expectations from Canon to produce something innovative this is bit of a 'what? OK so it lets some people get into FF cheaply, other than that it's a missed opportunity: what Canon fans have been clamouring for is a FF rangefinder style camera. OK that ain't going to happen from Canon but the close options have been missed too.

Canon are losing customers like me to Fuji and other brands because they aren't providing what I want, instead they are offering cameras that are close but not close enough-which is frustrating as I already have Canon glass.

Fuji burst anew onto the market with the so called 'Leica killers' - something people in droves actually wanted. It's a shame that Canon can't do the same they really are missing a trick. George Well, certainly there are trolls here, but i don't really buy into the speculation that cameramakers hire trolls. However, there is truly a lot to legitimately criticize in the RP and you'll see many legitimate criticisms here.

As always online, you just have to filter the crap out I'm not familiar with the Canon brand nor its model coding. My first thought was if this was mirrorless. Not even in the "Key specifications" is this mentioned. Curious that! Has mirrorless now been accepted as no longer exotic but just another technical feature of mainstream cameras? Still, surely the absence of a mirror should have been mentioned in the specification if for no other reason than to warn the reader that an adaptor may be needed.

How quick we forget how things were. I've never considered mirrorless exotic at all, no offense. PNS cameras have always been mirrorless, and needless to say they can only be considered good or great in relative terms. No matter what, i cannot get excited about or use a MILC that has poor ergos. The ultimate value of a camera is the quality of its image output. In that regard, this camera fails. Gallery-caliber IQ. You can split hairs on sensor tech, but that won't stop good photographers from creating gorgeous images, even selling them in galleries for thousands of dollars per print, with M43, APS-C, D, or this RP.

In addition the controls and menu are so well thought out, plus the awesome colour science and picture quality. As a lightweight AF walkabout this beats my leica and nikons by a long way. Not to mention a cheaper route into the excellent quality new RF lens system.

To make a fair comparison between 50mm and 85mm, you have to use a 1 stop shorter faster exposure time shutter speed. In other words, 85mm at f5. The f-number is irrelevant when comparing image quality if you don't take into account the focal length. What matters is the diameter of the aperture the pupil of the lens. An 85mm f2 lens has a 42mm diameter, a 50mm f2 lens has a 25mm diameter. You can calculate that easily:. What you have to consider here is that the 85mm lens has a much narrower field of view, therefore it has to gather the same amount of light from a much smaller area - to compensate the narrow view, aperture has to be bigger.

How much the aperture has to be bigger is linearly correlated to focal length. We could say that a 24mm lens with Take a picture with the same settings with different focal lenghts, and you will see you get the same exposure or very minimal differences cause of each lens has slightly different T-stop ;.

It's just that the wider lens gets to pull light from a larger area, whereas the longer lens pulls its light from a smaller area. IF you are a professional. Professionals can shoot non-professionally as well and they can use whatever they want. By professionals I mean people hired to document something using a camera like an event. There are plenty of professional photography jobs where you don't need serious professional tools or even skills like a simple studio work.

But when your are "out in the field", you need your camera to perform adequately. Consumer cameras are not meant to handle this kind of workloads or weather. Believe it or not, but film cameras can actually be tougher in this regard. Anyone can make money as a "cheap photographer" these days. But your tools of choice and your ability to fully utilize them your skills define the level of your professionalism. Not vice versa. Consumer camera doesn't turn into a professional tool just because you think that you are a big pro.

Todays consumer cameras can be used to get professional results all day long. You can own consumer bodies for the price of 1 pro body. If budget is an issue or business requirement; it is far more professional to have multiple cameras than 1 pro body and no back up. Whilst pro bodies are generally more reliable they do fail. Michael Christopher Brown is an example of using a consumer camera to document the war in Libya on the most consumer of cameras - an iPhone - for Magnum photo agency no less.

I don't care about other people's low expectations and asceticism. I'm into high definition photography. You can live in a cave and draw pictures on the walls with a rock, if you like it. You lost this argument before it started. At the end of the day if you have talent but are low on funds and do find yourself needing to shoot warfare in a tropical jungle. You can get a silicon body wrap for pretty much any camera going these days.

This a a couple of silicon lens sealers and your good to shoot in anything. Ugly yes. But it will do the job. I shoot pro sealed bodies but your argument is the tech equivalent of hypochondria.

I'm not against "cheap" photographers. I just don't call them professional photographers. In many cases it is even hard to call an artist with a pro camera a professional, because he can barely utilize the tool and lacks basic knowledge.

Pure talent without skills and professionalism is called dilettantism. You don't need to go to the North Pole to kill your camera. In reality, a few serious splashes of water liquid can damage a semi-pro class of camera like 5D series.

Just like the constant air humidity in some parts of the world kills the consumer level cameras rather easily. I'm being very careful with my cameras.

But you can't "babysit" tools you use to get the job done. It would be counterproductive. And you are wrong about weather sealing. Most cameras are not weather sealed. Read the manual. But then you are not really a professional if you have no money for proper tools.

The definition of a professional is getting paid for ones work.
